Liposuction is a surgery that reshapes or contours specific areas of the body by removing unnecessary and/or unwanted fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can result in a slimmer and more proportionate body. Common areas treated by liposuction include the thighs, hips, knees, calves, abdomen and waist, upper arms, back, chest, chin, and neck. Liposuction is often performed in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures such as tummy tuck, facelifts and breast reductions.

You may need to stay at home for several weeks after liposuction, depending on the number of sections treated and the amount of fat removed. It’s typical to have bruising and swelling for 1 or 2 weeks, and you should have stitches taken out 7 to 10 days after surgery.
